The second solo album from Michael Jackson came on the back of his hugely successful Got To Be There and provided him with a million selling single in the title track, an ode to a pet rat who was originally depicted on the album sleeve leading a stampede of four legged friends as a crowd flee – something that sounds spookily Shaun Of The Dead like all these years later. The hit aside, the albums other nine cuts include a great take on the Motown classic My Girl and Stevie Wonder’s Shoo-Be-Doo-Be-Doo-Da-Day and the soulful political Philly groove of Thom Bell’s People Make The World Go Round as well as a great version of We’ve Got A Good Thing Going. Already Jackson was developing a more emotive lead with an impressive range and the choice of material here works well.
