This live album from 1963 features the classic line-up of the Jazz Messengers with Blakey joined by Freddie Hubbard, Curtis Fuller, Cedar Walton, Wayne Shorter and Reggie Workman. Just two of the tracks have been aired elsewhere, the majority of this bluesy set having been created specially by the band. With Blakey leading as ever and the trio of brass leads providing the melody and attack, ‘Ugetsu’ catches a fine moment in time.
