From 2008, the recording of this self-titled album actually gave birth to yet another incarnation of the much-travelled Conor Oberst, with his co-conspirators becoming The Mystic Valley Band during the recording sessions. The album’s good time feel and experimental mixes add to the soulful alternative indie country vibe here, like a modern day Neil Young or indeed Beck without the hang ups of city life. Indeed, the easy going feel and laidback nature is almost a rebirth of cosmic country, the first single from the set, Souled Out, fully illustrating the easy, almost timeless feel.
