Whereas the simply titled Conor Oberst had been recorded in a specially built makeshift studio in a villa in Mexico and it’s wayward arrangements reflected that, Outer South seems more of a band creation with three of the members also contributing to the writing. The production too is more polished and the sound trips into beefier Americana territory.
