After the release of the soundtrack to Shaft, Isaac Hayes was established as a composer and singer as well as label partner, songwriter, producer et al. His follow up was the double album Black Moses, a nickname he’d earned at the burgeoning Stax Records. Filled with lengthened versions of standards like Never Can Say Goodbye, The Carpenters’ (They Long To Be) Close To You and I’ll Never Fall In love Again, and interspersed with various Ike Raps, Black Moses was the ultimate bachelor pad groove for a generation where free love and plenty of it seemed to be the order of the day. Still amazingly smooth and silky all these years on, this deluxe remastering is a real treat.
