Twenty tracks of piledriving Jerry Lee Lewis with the focus on his more upbeat piano-threatening style. The arrangements are latter period with electric piano in places and a backing choir who add a surreal sounding board for Lewis’ unkempt vocal and hollering delivery. Mainly played out at breakneck speed, there are a few more tempered moments like on Fats Domino’s Blueberry Hill, the Creedence standard Bad Moon Rising, Joe South’s Games People Play and Hallelujah I Love Her So, but Blue Suede Shoes, Memphis and the seminal Breathless are all swaggering affairs. The steel guitar tinged version of Kris Kristofferon’s Me And Bobby McGee and the mid tempo take on Buddy Holly’s Brown Eyed Handsome Man with its breezy backing singers and Jerry Lee’s off the board piano make it something of a gem.
