Classic jazz confusion here. Blue Trane is not the Bluenote album Blue Train, nor the original Prestige album Blue Trane, but an excellent ‘90s compilation of Prestige, pre-avant garde material recorded in 1957 and ’58 and originally released on Last Trane, Traneing In, Dig It! (with Red Garland), The Big Sound (with Gene Ammons), Black Pearls and Kenny Burrell And John Coltrane. Featuring lengthy be bop jams, there are just six tracks here, Blue Trane features much intimate piano and sax play offs and, inevitably, some fine soulful solo-ing.
