One of the rarest folk albums ever. Original copies on Decca go for over £350. The Candle were immersed in folklore and mysticism, like an Irish version of the early Fairports or Fotheringay playing ethereal folk music. Comprising of schoolfriends Clodagh Simonds and Alison O’Donell, with guitarist/vocalist David Williams, the trio’s debut single for Simon Napier Bell brought them to the attention of Deram who released ‘Swaddling Clothes’ in 1972. Its lack of success saw the band split a year later, but its subsequent legendary status saw them reform in the ‘90s.
