Jackson’s last studio album for Motown – his fourth at the tender age of 16 – saw him move to a more mature sweet soul sound with key ballads like the radio-friendly One Day In Your Life, You Are There and We’ve Got Forever, the almost show tune-like Cinderella Stay Awhile with it’s wayward brass, the funkier Stevie Wonder-like Just A Little Bit Of You and the hit We’re Almost There. The album signalled the beginning of a four year hiatus where Jackson and the Jackson 5 would leave Motown and he would return as a reborn superstar with Off The Wall, the wild excess of which is vaguely hinted at by the loose feel on the strangely structured Dapper Dan.
