The late great Otis recorded live in 1967 on two live shows during his European tour with a more than exuberant Emperor Rosko whipping the crowd into a frenzy. The horn section hold full control and the tempo is upbeat, from the breakneck Respect through to the slower songs that also add a few revs on the originals. Included are great versions of My Girl, Shake, The Beatles’ Day Tripper, the Stones’ Satisfaction and lots more. The mood is funky and the crowd sound positively stoked throughout as they singalong. There’s a real chemistry to these live recordings, an epic moment caught in time and the version of I’ve Been Loving You Too Long and the set closers Try A Little tenderness in their six minute plus forms are just awesome.
