Their debut album from 1969 is a mystical amalgam of jazz, mysticism, acid rock and eastern music, a cross between Happy Mondays, Cornershop and Ozric Tentacles which undoubtedly shaped many a tent dweller at Glastonbury. Quintessence were followers of Hindu religion who had come together in the late ‘60s hippy commune of Notting Hill in London. Hugely influenced by the music from India, Quintessence added a folky rock veneer that made them highly popular.accessible.
