Robbie Basho is an almost-neglected guitar genius, signed to John Fahey’s Takoma label. Whereas Fahey has received a modicum of acclaim, guitar stylists like Norman Blake, Sandy Bull, Leo Kottke and Basho have failed to register. Basho’s unique mix of Eastern and Classical textures is reminiscent in places of Davy Graham, but whereas Graham is tempered with contemporary tunes, Basho opts for the mantra as he creates a hypnotic raga-style on this exotic collection which centres around the lengthy ‘The Falconer’s Arms’ and pulls tracks from his three Takoma albums.
