A complete upheaval hit the Banshees at the start of their promotional tour for Join Hands. Drummer Keni Morris and guitarist John McKay quit the band leaving The Cure’s Robert Smith to step in and complete the shows. Reduced to just Siouxsie and bassist Steve Severin, the duo brought in ex Slits’ drummer Budgie and included guest guitarists Steve Jones from The Sex Pistols and John McGeoch from Magazine. By now the sound was more ethereal and brooding, Siouxsie’s vocals are allowed to move through the music and there’s a hint of psychedelia, strange synth backdrops and some perfect radio-friendly songs – Christine and Happy House – amid the ambience of what is a great album.
