Recorded at the tale end of the ‘90s, Cydonia, named after the region on Mars where the Voyager craft landed, was another confusing Orb masterpiece. Delayed through changes at island Records it would be the band’s last for the label, opening with what amounted to an almost commercial song in Once More, which confused dabblers and erstwhile Orb regulars. The mood is more upbeat than usual in places but moods change and Cydonia switches rhythm like someone with a wayward remote is controlling the action. The recently remastered version unearthed 11 intriguing and hugely entertaining interpretations further expanding the legend of The Orb.
