It was roundly, but wrongly, assumed in 1981 that musical inventiveness of Talking Heads began and ended with David Byrne. And yet as Byrne dabbled with Eno on their Bush Of Ghosts project drummer Chris Frantz and bassist Tina Weymouth brought in Tina’s two sisters to form the monumental Tom Tom Club. Their gorgeous debut album Wordy Rappinghood (included here in its entirety on Disc 1) included the breathtaking electro-groove of the title track and the bouncy funk of Genius Of Love, both now widely considered among the era’s most groundbreaking tracks and an influence on just about everyone since - from Grandmaster Flash to Mariah Carey and Peaches. With occasional Bowie guitarist Adrian Belew on board the sound is truly hypnotic and five extra remixes on the deluxe edition further enhance their groove. The second disc of this 2-disc set contains, for the first time on CD, the band's second album Close To The Bone which features the club hit, The Man With The 4-Way Hips. It, too, has also been expanded with four bonus remixes.
